Abstract

Mattias Wendel is Professor of Public Law, EU Law, International Law, Migration Law and Comparative Law. He joined Leipzig University in 2020. Professor Wendel studied law at the University of Passau, Humboldt-University Berlin and University Paris 1 - Panthéon/Sorbonne and was academic visitor at the University of Oxford. He worked as a research fellow and lecturer at the Walter-Hallstein-Institute for European Constitutional Law at Humboldt University (chair Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Ingolf Pernice), where he received his doctorate in 2010 as well as his habilitation in 2017. From 2018-2020 he was Professor at Bielefeld University. In 2021 he received a call for a professorship at the University of Freiburg. He is author of several books, articles and contributions in the field of EU constitutional law, comparative law. Mattias Wendel is a member of the editorial board of the European Constitutional Law Review and the Cahiers de droit européen.

Gute Lehre ist Professor Wendel ein zentrales Anliegen. Thematisch haben sich seine Lehrveranstaltungen in engster Verzahnung zu seinen Forschungsinteressen entwickelt. Die von ihm bisher angebotene Lehre erstreckt sich auf den gesamten Bereich des Öffentlichen Rechts. Dazu gehören Pflichtfachvorlesungen (u.a. Europarecht, Staatsrecht III, Grundrechte, Allgemeines Verwaltungsrecht) ebenso wie Vorlesungen im universitären Schwerpunktbereich zum Europa- und Völkerrecht (u.a. Vertiefungsvorlesung Europarecht, Europäischer und internationaler Grund- und Menschenrechtsschutz, internationales Wirtschaftsrecht) und zum Migrationsrecht (u.a. Europäisches Migrationsrecht, Asylrecht, Einwanderungs- und Freizügigkeitsrecht), Seminare (Pflicht- und Schwerpunktbereich zu diversen europarechtlichen und migrationsrechtlichen Themen), Verhandlungssimulationen (insbes. des Europäischen Gerichtshofs), Übungen (u.a. Europarecht, Große Übung im Öffentlichen Recht) sowie Examinatorien (u.a. Europarecht, Polizei- und Allgemeines Ordnungsrecht) und Klausurenkurse. In seiner Zeit als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter hat Mattias Wendel zudem eine Vielzahl von Arbeitsgemeinschaften angeboten (u.a. Europarecht, Staatsrecht III, Grundrechte, Staatsorganisationsrecht, Allgemeines Verwaltungsrecht, Besonderes Verwaltungsrecht).
